Franc Zylyftary: AI is reshaping the cybersecurity landscape

Artificial intelligence (AI) is fundamentally reshaping the cybersecurity landscape, accelerating both defensive and offensive operations. “We are increasingly witnessing malicious actors leveraging AI to conduct cyber operations and develop sophisticated threats and malware,” says Franc Zylyftary, Head of the Cyber Security Incident Response Team at Albania’s National Agency of Information Society (AKSHI), in a video interview given to eGA.

“On the defensive side — the ‘good guys’ — we must evolve our techniques to keep pace. From my perspective in the Western Balkans, representing the National Agency for Information Society, which is responsible for monitoring and protecting all Albanian government systems and infrastructures, we have been using artificial intelligence and machine learning since 2022,” Zylyftary explains.

He adds that AI and machine learning are at the heart of AKSHI’s zero-trust architecture, combined with a defence-in-depth strategy. AI now helps investigate and close more than 60% of daily incidents, significantly improving efficiency and allowing many issues to be resolved without human intervention.

Franc Zylyftary gave an interview at the 2025 Tallinn Cyber Diplomacy Summer School, where he participated in the panel “Disinformation: How AI Is Changing the Game.” The panel explored how artificial intelligence is reshaping the disinformation landscape, weighed the benefits and risks of AI in the public sector and media, and discussed its implications for trust, truth, and democracy.
