On February 10, 2026, the world celebrates the 22nd anniversary of Safer Internet Day (SID). What began as a local initiative in 2004 has grown into a flagship global movement, now spanning over 160 countries.
This year, the focus remains steadfast on promoting the safe, responsible, and positive use of digital technology, with a primary mission to empower children and young people in the digital age.
In the Western Balkans, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro are leading the charge with innovative programs tailored to the unique needs of their youth.

Celebrating Safer Internet Day in the Western Balkans
Albania
Albania is marking Safer Internet Day 2026 with an extensive nationwide program focused on digital literacy and protection. Central to these efforts is a multi-stakeholder collaboration between public authorities, civil society, and the internet industry.
Most notably, the first lesson in all public schools will be dedicated to online safety as part of the “Cyberbullying is not a game” national campaign, ensuring children across the country are immediately equipped with the tools to identify and report digital harassment.

Bosnia and Herzegovina
Bosnia and Herzegovina’s approach to Safer Internet Day 2026 centers on interactive learning and nationwide digital engagement.
The cornerstone of the celebration is the national online quiz, one of the country’s largest educational digital initiatives, which gamifies safety to help children recognize risks and develop critical thinking skills.
This effort is supported by a comprehensive preliminary campaign of school-based sessions and awareness-raising actions, ensuring that students are well-prepared with practical knowledge before participating in the competition.
