The European Union is taking another important step to strengthen cybersecurity across the Western Balkans. A new contribution agreement between the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA) and the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Enlargement and Eastern Neighbourhood (DG ENEST) marks a coordinated effort to reinforce cyber resilience in the region.
On 25 March, the agreement was formally signed by Juhan Lepassaar, Executive Director of the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity, and Valentina Superti, Director in DG ENEST, underscoring the EU’s continued commitment to supporting its partner countries on their path towards closer EU integration.
As Western Balkan countries are close partners of the EU and candidate countries, this contribution agreement will strengthen the cybersecurity of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia.
The capacity building project will focus on assisting policymaking with data and evidence, tailored training and knowledge exchange sessions, and cybersecurity exercises over an initial period of three years. In these activities ENISA will leverage the expertise, tools, and frameworks it has been developing over the years to support EU Member States.
